JOSH TREADWAY
FIVE POINT BIRDSEYE MAPLE & EBONY
WITH EXTENSIVE INLAY WORK
Here is another terrific, great-playing cue from the shop of Josh Treadway. It's a bit unusual in that it's a five pointer, but for the most part it's a very traditional cue ... with lots and lots of inlays.
It's made with a heavily inlaid ebony butt sleeve and five veneered maple points into a rock-hard maple nose.
The points are nice and long, and are all bridged with veneers at their bases. He inlays a notched diamond with silver dots in the base of each point as well.
This inlay pattern in the butt sleeve is something to behold. There are over 100 individual inlays in that pattern alone, including notched white Juma diamonds, silver dots, bigger silver dots framed in white and barbells made from blue and white veneers with more silver dots, again circled in white.
Since Josh's ringwork is inlaid, everything lines up perfectly.
Above is a close-up of the inlay work, and below a look at the entire butt.
This cue really looks good - all the design work ties together, and although it's plenty fancy, it's also very traditional.
Notice how well everything lines up between the rings and the other design elements in the stick.
| |
The veneer colors are very attractive, using black, white, blue and white again. At a glance, the overall effect is blue.
He uses a black mission grain pigskin leather wrap for the handle - pretty, matches the cue well, and has a great feel to it.
The joint and butt cap are both made from white Juma.
He includes a nice set of ebony joint protectors with white Juma caps, each engraved and with matching ringwork. It's built with a stainless steel radial pin in a flat-faced joint. All the silver in the cue is real silver.
It is 58 inches long and weighs 18.4 ounces (14.8,. 3.6, 3.6). This is an eye-catching stick with dazzling inlay work. But best of all, it plays like a Treadway ... nice solid hit with great balance, feel and feedback.
