TIM SCRUGGS ORIGINAL

This is an original early Tim Scruggs cue that was recently restored by Cory Barnhart, who has been working with Tim Scruggs and assisting him in doing repairs of his cues.  It's a classic old Scruggs design with beautiful wood and points, and a great player.

The nose is made of a beautiful piece of lightly stained birdseye maple that shows a lot of figure.  The points are made with black, red, holly and blue veneers, framing ebony points.

The butt sleeve is all ebony with four mother-of-pearl notched diamonds and four dots.  The butt cap is white delfrin with the traditional TS logo.

The points are nice and sharp and the veneer colors are bright and really attractive.  There's a lot of figure in the maple nose.

This cue was made about 1980 or 1981, and as was standard for his cues at that time, it was built with a piloted stainless steel joint with a 5/16X14 pin.  It has a nice, solid hit.

When Cory refinished it, he added a nicely textured black leather wrap that looks good and feels even better.  He applied it expertly, and the seam is almost indistinguishable.

There's a bonus with this cue.  It comes with the original two shafts, plus two brand new ones made by Cory.  He matched the ringwork perfectly, and if you know anything about Cory's shaft wood, you'll know that they will play great.

The two new shafts are 13mm, and the two old original shafts have been sanded down through years of play to about 12mm.  The new shafts are standard 29-1/4 inches, while the old ones somehow became 28-1/4.  With the new shafts, the whole cue measures a standard 58"; with the old ones it measures only 57 inches.

Keeping with the times in which it was made, this cue weighs 20.8 ounces.  However, with the old shafts which have shrunk through the years, it weighs only 19.9.
This is a really nice example of Tim's early work.  It's been around for more than 30 years, but with Cory's help now looks like it was made yesterday.  I hope someone buys this cue and plays with it for another 30 years!
