BOB OWEN
EBONY AND AMBOYNA BURL
FOUR POINT

Bob Owen has been making quality cues in Wichita for many years, first in the Shurtz Cue shop, then taking over on his own several years ago and making fine playing instruments on his own ever since.  The last few years he has had a strong following, selling cues all over the country and now has a long waiting list.  Finding any of his cues available for sale right now is rare, so here's a chance to get a brand new one today.

This is a very pretty four point cue in ebony and amboyna burl.  The wood quality is excellent, and as always, the work is excellent and the playability is outstanding.

The burl is beautiful - lots of figure and a rich, deep honey color.

He uses the burl in both the points and the boxes in the butt sleeve, so it has lots of room to be exhibited.  The points and boxes are framed with a white LBM veneer and an ebony veneer that frames the burl nicely and really shows off the wood.

Between the burl boxes are pointed burl rectangles, also lined in white veneers.  The work is meticulous, as always.  Keep in mind Bob uses Pantagraph technology, so this makes it even more special.

In the base of each point, and above and below each of the burl pointed rectangles, he inlays three delicate white dots and small abalone diamond framed in white.

As always, his points are sharp, long and even, and the white veneers extending into the deep black ebony looks especially good.

Bob's ring sets are always special.  These are no exception.  He uses a series of white dots and small square chunks of abalone in a series of squares forming a long rectangle in combination.   Then he uses them at all locations.

He builds it with a white LBM joint and butt cap, and as usual, his logo is engraved in the cap.

He uses a gorgeous rust-colored lizard wrap that matches the color of the amboyna burl and looks splendid on the cue.  It also feels great in the hand.

     A closer view ...

As always, his mitered corners are about as perfect as you can find anywhere.

Bob's work ethic is outstanding.  Not only does he turn out his cues on a very regular schedule and meet his deadlines, he never takes any shortcuts with his cues.  Every one of his "higher end" cues that I've seen has a flawless set of matching joint protectors, complete with matching rings, each engraved with his logo.

He builds this one with his usual 3/8X11 steel pin, in a flat-faced joint.  It comes with two of his 13mm premium hard maple shafts with Juma ferrules and Precision soft layers tips.  It weighs 19.8 (15.9, 3.9, 4.0) and is 58 inches long.
This cue has a firm, fairly stiff, yet soft, hit with minimal deflection.  His cues are always great players.  (If they're good enough for Gabe Owen, his son and winner of the U.S. Open, they should be good enough for anyone.)
