NORTH DEMON
WRAPLESS COCOBOLO & CURLY MAPLE
SIX POINT CUE WITH SILVER VENEERS
Here is another stunning stick by Cheng at North Demon - a six point, three short, three long, up and down design. It's all accomplished with a cocobolo butt sleeve and forearm, with dazzling curly maple points and handle.
Of course, that's just the beginning. He inlays fancy spearheads of white LBM in the base of the points, outlined in silver. And the points are completely wrapped in silver veneers.
Each point is tipped with a solid silver tulip, adding one more important aesthetic feature to this magnificent stick.
If you're a fan of wrapless cues, you couldn't ask for much more than this. He uses a show-quality piece of curly maple, and builds it in a two part, segmented design.
All the silver adds a lot to this stick. He adds it in almost every reasonable location - the veneers on the points, around all the inlays, and in the fancy inlaid rings.
Obviously, the most important factor in the purchase of any cue is how well it plays. The most beautiful cue in the world is worthless if it doesn't hit well. North Demon cues do not fall short in that department. They have a stiff, crisp hit with outstanding feedback. Balance is perfect, and each cue's weight is generally adjustable. And the premium maple shafts are individually fine-tuned to the perfect feel with extreme low deflection. I believe they are as very competitive in that category as the best carbon fiber shafts.
The wood selections for this cue are outstanding. Show quality curly maple and highly figured, wonderfully colored cocobolo.
He adds a white LBM butt cap and joint to highlight the overall look of this cue. And, as usual, he engraves the North Demon logo into the butt cap.
| |
His ringwork is highly varied from cue to cue. In this one, they are very delicate, with intricate silver inlay work. This type of work is very difficult and time-consuming, even with the help of CNC machines, requiring lots of "run" time. And he is very generous with their use at all locations, including on the ring collars of the shafts, in the middle of the handle and on the butt joint protector.
The silver veneers on the points add so much to this cue. With every movement of the cue they catch the light. In my opinion, every cue is enhanced considerably with the addition of silver veneer work.
| |
| The point veneers join at the top of each point and feed into a solid silver tulip inlay - another delicate feature in this cue's design. One of the great things in Cheng's work is the seamless nature of his silver veneers. A lot of his veneer work consists of one continuous piece of "modular" silver, put into the cue in one piece. Sometimes it's difficult to find a seam anywhere. He is unsurpassed in this particular feature of his work.
As usual, it comes with a matching set of joint protectors with the North Demon logo engraved on the top of each, and matching ringwork on the butt cap.
One more look at the delicate work and beautiful woods in this spectacular cue.
This cue comes with two of his specially tuned shafts - one in keelwood and one in premium maple. Both have the North Demon logo engraved in the lower portion, a particularly nice feature.
It is built with a flat faced joint with a titanium radial thread pin. The shafts come with the low deflection North Demon build and taper, with LBM ferrules and the unique ND proprietary tips. This cue weighs either 19.0 or 19.5, depending on which shaft is used (B 15.5, KW 3.5, MPL 4.0). It is 58 inches long, and comes with a built in receiver that accomodates many generic extensions (Predator, etc.). It also comes with a set of weight bolts so that the owner can adjust the weight and balance to their own needs.
PRICE: $6350 PLUS SHIPPING. (Includes all importation and shipping costs we incurred in shipping this cue to the U.S.)
