FEATHER CROWN CUE
IN EBONY
AND BLUE-DYED MAPLE BURL
BY HALL OF FAME CUE MAKER
JERRY McWORTER

American Cuemakers Association Hall of Famer Jerry McWorter continues to refine his craft and make the best cues of his career.  He's been at it for more than 40 years now, and the consistency in his building techniques insure the soft, solid and firm hit for which his cues have always been known.

This cue is one of my favorite McWorter designs.  And in it he has used a contemporary material, blue-dyed maple, as an inlay material.  He has used it very successfully.

I've always liked this design, especially since it allows him to show off his exceptional veneer work in silver.  He is as good as anybody in the business when it comes to working with silver, as evident in this cue.

The design of this stick is basically an eight pointer - four short points of white LBM and four longer points of the blue maple burl.  All are outlined in silver and burst into a "crown" at their ends.

Each of the four longer points are tipped with an elongated spearhead of white LBM.

He uses the same pattern in the butt of the cue.  Thus, the points are bursting from the handle in opposite directions.  It's a great look, and a beautiful design.

All of this, of course, is built against the dark background of pure, black ebony.

I also like the way he uses white rings above and below the wrap to clearly separate the handle area.  He does this in many of his best designs.

I love this blue maple burl and how it provides a nice accent to the overall look.

Jerry's silverwork is unsurpassed in beauty and quality.  And the quality of his woods is always excellent.
He uses a tight, double silver ring at the joint of all his cues.

Jerry does things a certain way in his cues and seldom deviates from doing what he likes and thinks best.  His wraps are a good example.  He always uses the same wrap - a lightly textured black leather that is very comfortable and wears extremely well.  And it allows him to show off his exceptional seam work.  It is very difficult to find the seams in his wraps, even though the leather is fairly smooth.  The picture on the right below is taken directly of the seam ... can you see it?

A good close-up look at the fine work in this design.

This cue weighs 18.6 ounces and is 58 inches long.  It is built with a 3/8X10 stainless steel joint and comes with one 13mm premium maple shaft carefully constructed for reduced deflection.

All of Jerry's cues are threaded to accept his own custom extensions (purchased separately).  You merely remove the regular rubber bumper and screw in the extension.
This is a tremendous playing cue.  It has a soft, but solid hit with just the right amount of stiffness.  And the balance, in my opinion, is perfect.  If you're looking for a high-end beautiful cue that plays a ton, this is it.
