Recollection Cues

Collectible Cues, Cases & Quality Players

Andy Gilbert has for a number of years been building some of the finest cues made in the world using only a pantagraph.  This one is an excellent example. Although the Gilbert shop is known for the cues made for players, their high end work has been filling the racks of collectors for quite some time.
If you like traditional work at its highest limits, this is the kind of cue Andy has been producing for players and collectors over the last ten years or so.

This cue really has it all - veneered points, butterflies, fancy ringwork, ivory inlays, and a three-part segmented cocobolo handle.  You normally find one or two of these features in a single cue, but not all of them.

Add in another factor ... engraving.  Andy has only done engraving on a few cues, and this is one of them.  He completes the ivory boxes in the butt sleeve by engraving a double arrowhead in each one.

This picture also gives a good view of the rings.  Each one is completed by using a series of ivory diamonds and dots, with a small dot of jeweler's gold as the centerpiece of each diamond.  All this between two ivory rings in each location.

The wrapless component is made up of three separate pieces of beautiful cocobolo, each separated by ivory rings with black phenolic rings on each side.

The nose of this cue is difficult to describe, because it is so complex.  It consists of four traditional points, separated by beautiful butterfly points.  The green color in the butterflies matches the color in the point veneers, adding a lot to the overall look. Add to this the ivory shadow points inlaid in both the veneered points and the butterfly points, all with hand engraving.  Everything goes into a nose of pretty curly maple.

Note the additional engraving in the ivory inlaid "shadow" points in each of the points in the nose.

The cocobolo in the handle section is highly figured and beautiful.  It really complements the overall appearance of the stick.

And, of course, the best thing about this cue is that it is - and plays like - a Gilbert.  Constructed with a 3/8X10 pin (tipped with ivory!) in a flat-faced joint, this cue hits with the best of them.  It comes with a custom joint protector for the butt, made of ebony with an ivory cap. It also has an ivory joint and ivory butt cap (with the Gilbert logo and date).

Both the quantity and quality of the work in this cue is incredible.  It represents Gilbert at his best.

This cue comes with two 13mm shafts with elforyn ferrules and LePro tips.  It weighs 19.6 ounces.  It is in "new" condition and unchalked. You normally only find a cue like this at one of the big cue expos where Andy exhibits, and he seldom offers more than two or three a year at this level.
