DAVID ELLIOTT
WRAPLESS TURKISH WALNUT
MERRY WIDOW
Here is a pre-owned merry widow cue from David Elliott. It's a simple design that is made special with the use of some unusual - and very pretty - wood.
The forearm and butt sleeve are built from a classy and subdued piece of smoky Turkish walnut. And the handle is made from a very nice piece of highly curled piece of maple.
I think this may be the first time I've seen a cue made from Turkish walnut so to say it's unusual is an understatement. Let's just say you're not likely to run into someone else who has one.
He builds it with a nice set of double white fiber rings and uses them throughout the cue. They're a simple design, but look just right on this cue.
I like the understated quality of this wood. It has a smoky, subdued look.
As you probably know from comments I've made elsewhere on this site, I'm a big believer in the playing power of David's sticks. They have a soft, solid hit with great touch and feedback, and they're always well-balanced. This one is no exception. And, it's an opportunity to get into a custom, well-built cue from a strong emerging cue builder at a very affordable price.

Very nice, very curly maple.
| |
As a somewhat final touch, he adds a black joint and butt cap, and as usual, engraves his "E" logo in the butt cap.
A few more looks at this pretty wood.

Nice figure, color and grain.
As with all his cues, he never varies the type of joint - flat-faced with a stainless steel radial thread pin. It weighs either 18.6 or 19.0 depending on which shaft is used (15.2, 3.4, 3.8). It is 58 inches long, and comes with two 13mm premium maple shafts with melamine ferrules and layered Wizard medium tips.
As mentioned earlier, this cue is pre-owned, and although it is in excellent condition, it shows some very slight signs of play. The butt has a very minor scuff mark on the butt cap, and there is one very slight finish ding just above the wrap, neither of which I could find until I examined it under a 30 power magnifying glass. The shafts at first glance appeart to be unplayed, but again, under a magnifying glass I can see extremely slight signs of chalk in the grain. Overall I would put this cue at 95-98%. I have priced it accordingly.
