DAVID ELLIOTT
FOUR POINT BLACK & WHITE EBONY
WITH EBONY POINTS

Here is another pretty cue from David Elliott - a four pointer in one of my favorite woods, black and white ebony, with black ebony points.  (This one is pre-owned but in excellent condition.)

Anyone who follows this site knows that I think highly of David's work.  After many years of helping in Chris Nitti's shop, he began making his own cues a few years ago, and makes them in the same fashion, and on the same equipment, as Chris.  And even though David's have their own look, they play just like a Nitti, in my opinion.

This is a very pretty cue, and has a number of attractive features, but I think the  black and white ebony in the butt sleeve and nose is the star.  When this wood is good, it's really good, and there's nothing else that looks quite like it.  In this cue, it's stunning.

I've never seen this ring pattern anywhere before.  It's unique, to say the least.  Being a pantagraph guy, David and Chris both work hard to come up with creative ways to make their rings unusual and special.  These use an oval "egg" shape with white LBM in the top and bottom, and a chunk of veneer in the middle that match the veneers on the points.

Here are several views of the forearm with it rotated for different views.

The orange-yellow-orange-black veneer combination is perfect for this cue.  They help the points stand out in a cue that has a lot of other things going on.

I love the way he ties in the look and colors of the rings and veneers on the points.

The color and figure in this wood is spectacular.

He uses the same wood in the joint protector so that they are a perfect match.  And he builds it with a black joint and butt cap, which really complement the overall look.

He uses a textured black leather wrap for the handle.

To make this cue extra special, he built a set of matching joint protectors of the same black and white ebony that is in the cue.  Then he adds the matching rings that are used throughout the cue.  These rings are used nine times, including their use on the shaft ring collars.

It is built with the same joint as all cues that come out of the Nitti/Elliott shop - flat-faced with a stainless steel radial thread pin.

Through the years I have probably sold 60-70 cues from the Nitti/Elliott shop, all built the same way, and have never heard from anyone that they weren't happy with the hit.  They always have a soft, solid hit with a lot of touch and great balance.

This one comes with two premium maple shafts with melamine ferrules and layered Wizard medium tips.  It weighs 19.8 or 19.9 depending on which shaft is used (B 16.0, SHFTS 3.8, 3.9).  It is 58 inches long.

As mentioned earlier, this cue is pre-owned but shows only very minor  signs of play.  The butt is nearly mint, with only a couple of very minor surface scratches than I couldn't see with my naked eye, and only noticed them under a magnifying glass with bright light.  One shaft looks unplayed, the other shows sign of play that I couldn't see with my naked eye and can only detect under a magnifying glass.  Overall I'd put it at 98%.  (If it were new, with the quality of this wood and the gorgeous joint protects, I'd be asking $3300-3400.)
