MIKE DURBIN
FOUR POINT
KINGWOOD & MAPLE
Here's a great little player cue that is clean and sharp. Mike always prides himself on building nice, affordable player cues, and this one is a good example.
He built this one with four points of kingwood, a kingwood butt sleeve and a nose of nice curly maple. It's unobtrusive and low-key, but will make someone a wonderful playing cue.
The kingwood has nice grain in it, and the tone of the wood is very rich.
He adds a pretty Hoppe-style ring at the butt with a couple of rings to dress it up a bit.
The points are long, sharp and even.
He wraps the handle with a nicely-textured black leather that looks great on the cue, and feels super in your hand.
He signs the cue under the finish on the maple between the points.
I love the way he did the Hoppe butt cap on this cue with the super-thin rings.
This maple isn't the usual curly maple typically seen in cues. It's cut at a unique angle that looks rather smoky, with long scallops instead of the the typical curls.
He finishes it with a white elforyn joint, with a steel pin in a 3/8 X 11 thread. It comes with two 12.9 mm maple shafts with elforyn ferrules and LePro tips. He adds two brass rings below the joint with matching rings on the shafts.
It weighs either 19.2 or 19.3 ounces, depending on which shaft is used (15.8, 3.4, 3.5). It is 58 inches long.
Here's a chance to get a sharp looking player from a top cuemaker who really knows how to build cues that play well, and all at a very affordable price.
