MIKE DURBIN WRAPLESS
BOCOTE AND MADRE DE CACAO
MERRY WIDOW
Here's another great player cue from Mike, built to look good and play well, at a very affordable price for a custom made cue from a top tier cue maker.
It's a simple merry widow disign, dressed up just a little, but made from some excellent, very attractive woods. The forearm and butt sleeve are from a pretty piece of bocote, and the handle is made from an unusual wood, madre de cocao.
The bocote has nice color and outstanding grain. It is highly figured and very attractive.
Madre de cacao is a hardwood from central America, and is widely used in the production of furniture. It has a soft brown color with a luxurious texture. It's the first time I've seen it used in a cue. Very unusual, and very pretty.
He uses a simple slotted ring pattern at all locations, including above the butt cap, below and above the handle, at the joint and on the ring collars of the shafts - just the right touch.
I really like this madre de cacao wood - it has nice color and a soft finish. It reminds me a lot of cedar.
And again, this bocote has excellent figure.
Pretty little rings -- slots of natural veneer in black phenolic.
| |
He adds a white elforyn joint that looks great and really adds an extra cosmetic touch.
This cue comes with two of Mike's premium maple 13mm shafts with elfoyrn ferrules and LePro tips. It is built with a 3/8X11 steel pin in a flat-faced joint. Like all of Mike's sticks, it hits a ton. It weighs 19.4 ounces (15.7, 3.7, 3.7).
If you're a fan of wrapless cues, here's a good option for you - a well-made, custom cue by a very good cue maker. There's a reason why so many top players play with Mike's sticks!
