Here is a real "gem" from Eddie Cohen. It's a four point ebony cue with ebony points and bridged veneers, veneered windows, and nearly countless inlays, including some of the fanciest rings I've seen.
The long ebony points are outlined in three layers of veneer - blue, white, and blue, separating them clearly from the ebony background.
Everything about this cue is exceptional. The work is clean and the design is well-conceived. But perhaps the real star is the ringwork. Each ring is made starting with a wide white LBM ring framed with four very thin rings of white, silver, white and silver. Then, in the white are 32 small handset abalone diamonds.
Inlaid into the base of each point are large notched Juma diamonds, along with two London blue topaz gemstones. Each gemstone is set in a small silver ring which, in the points, is very slightly elevated and then finished over.
He repeats the same inlay pattern in the windows in the butt sleeve, again setting the blue topaz gemstones in silver above and below the Juma notched diamonds.
As always, Eddie's veneer work is clean and even, and his veneered corners are as good as they can get.
He uses a handsome black wild Scotch grain leather wrap on the handle which has a very nice textured finish. It looks great and feels pleasant in the hand - nice and soft, and will wear well.
The topaz gemstones in the points are slightly raised for effect, but still under the finish.
| |
The points are long, even and very sharp. They reach to within an inch or so of the joint ring.
The veneer colors are a perfect match to draw out the color of the gemstones.
The picture below is a good close-up of these stunning rings - the thin silver, white and black rings, and the multitude of abalone diamonds. These rings, according to Eddie, would cost $350 per ring on a special order, so there are $2100 worth of rings alone in this cue.
And as usual, he engraves his name/logo in the butt cap.
He builds it with a flat-faced LBM sleeve joint with a 3/8 X 10 steel pin, and it has the great hit that all Cohen cues do. It comes with two 13mm premium maple shafts with Tomahawk ferrules and soft Kamui Black layered tips. It weighs 19.4 ounces (15.4,m 4.0, 4.0) and is 58 inches long.
