CODY CASH MERRY WIDOW
"PK" CUE
IN SPALDED TAMARIND AND COCOBOLO
Here is a very pretty cue by a cue maker new to this site, Cody Cash from Wichita, Kansas. I've been seeing his cues for several years now, and had the chance at the recent Shooters tournament in Olathe, KS to see some in person. His work is good, and his designs are classy and traditional. And I was very pleased with how well they play.
This one is made from a dazzling piece of spalded Tamarind, with outstanding grain and figure, and a nice piece of cocobolo for the nose.
You can tell at a quick glance that he has a nice eye for detail, and he's added a lot of small things to this cue that make it special.
For example, he uses a number of reddish-brown phenolic rings at key points throughout the cue, which add a great deal to its appearance.
He builds it in a four point design, with veneered points of the spalded Tamarind into a nose of cocobolo.
I've tried to provide pictures showing the cue from a lot of different perspectives so you can see the beauty of this wood.
He builds the butt cap of the same reddish phenolic as the rings used throughout the cue, including above and below the wrap.
I always like it when a cue maker uses a ring above and below the wrap. It seems to provide a more finished look, in my opinion.
The selection of this leather wrap was a great finishing touch to this beautiful stick. He uses a reddish-brown embossed leather that matches the other colors in the cue perfectly.
He uses white Juma for the joint, and again, puts a reddish ring just below it.
| |
In the butt cap ring he engraves the logo for his cues - "PK" - which is the name of his son, and what he calls the cues he builds.
He builds it with a flat-faced joint with a brass 3/8X10 pin. It comes with one maple shaft with a Juma ferrule and medium LePro tip. It has a very comfortabler pro taper, and overall is a very nice playing cue. It is 58 inches long and weighs 19.4 ounces (15.8, 3.6).
