ARIEL CARMELI
EBONY AND COCOBOLO
FANCY SIX POINT
WITH PAUI SHELL INLAY
Here's another very fancy six point cue from the shop of Ariel Carmeli. He's made this design before, in a number of different combinations of woods and inlay materials.
This cue is similar to another I have (or had) on the site, only different woods. While the other was built with a cocobolo butt sleeve and points into a maple nose, this one has an ebony butt sleeve and points into a cocobolo nose. Same design, with different woods and different rings.
The butt sleeve design is exquisite, with inlaid LBM ovals and paui shell (abalone) inlays wrapped in more white LBM.
He uses one of his classic ring patterns on this one - two silver rings overlapping a series of stylized white LBM diamonds. He continues its use throughout the cue ... above the butt cap, below and above the handle, at the joint and on the ring collars of the shafts.
At the base of each of the three long points, he inlays an abalone spearhead outlined in white LBM in a "fleur"-like design.
| |
Each of the six points - both long and short - are outlined in three layers of veneer, with the colors white, black and white.
The cocobolo is superb. Great deep, rich reddish-brown with lots of figure and grain. Very showy.
To complement the white butt cap, and to tie the whole design together, he builds in a white LBM joint.
For the handle he uses a beautiful black leather Spanish bull wrap.
A great overall design ...
| |
... with gorgeous cocobolo.
Below is a good close-up pic of the beautiful inlay work in the butt sleeve, all highlighted with gorgeous Paui shell centers.
Great contrast between these two woods.
It is built with his standard 3/8X10 steel pin in a flat faced joint. It comes with two 13mm premium maple shafts with melamine ferrules and Triangle layered tips. It weighs 18.7 ounces (15.0, 3.7, 3.7), and is 58 inches long.
