ARIEL CARMELI
COCOBOLO MERRY WIDOW
WITH LINEN
|
This is the second of two Carmeli cues I picked up at the 2014 Super Billiards Expo. When I saw this one, and the other, I couldn't resist the wood. Ariel continues to manage to find some of the best cocobolos I've seen anywhere. The grain and figure in this one is exceptional, and although these pictures don't do it justice, it is extraordinary wood.
|
Of course, what makes this cue really special is that it's a one of a kind custom cue by Carmeli. He continues to do exquisite work, and in this case he takes a simple, merry widow design and ends up turning out a classy, player's cue.

Although these pictures make the cocobolo in this cue look a little more "orange" than it really is, I hope you can see how gorgeous the figure in this wood is.

Ariel does a nice job of dressing this relatively simple cue up by adding a few classy rings in all locations - above the butt cap, above and below the wrap, at the joint and on the ring collars of the two shafts.
|
He didn't use all the good wood in the nose ... there was plenty left for an exceptional butt sleeve.

He wrapped this one with a black linen wrap and wrapped it extra tight and then pressed it firmly. It has a nice, shiny look and feels great in your hand.
|
He caps the butt with a black phenolic butt cap and signs it under the finish just above. He matches it with a black phenolic joint, in a flat-faced configuration with a 3/8 X 10 stainless steel pin. This construction works really well for him, as his cues consistently play well.

This one comes with two 13mm shafts of quality maple with LBM Melamine ferrules and Triangle tips. It weighs 18.7 ounces. This is a lot of cue for the price.
