ARIEL CARMELI EIGHT POINT
EBONY & BLACK ASH BURL
WITH ABALONE DIAMONDS
Here's an unusual design from Ariel - a mostly ebony eight point design with black ash burl points, and a variety of abalone diamonds lined in white LBM. It's a stunning cue in deep black ebony with natural veneers and some classy inlays.
The four long points are ebony, and the four short points are built from some pretty black ash burl. All are framed with a natural maple colored wood veneers.
He uses one of his favorite ring patterns on this one, which is also his most recognizable. It consists of stylized white diamonds with slightly curved sides, framed with two concentric rings of silver.
Above is a full picture of the entire cue. Very classy.
This is a great looking cue. The overall design is classic, and the choice of contrasting wood colors is just right. Then, with the addition of these gorgeous abalone diamonds and the classy rings, it all comes together very nicely.
Of course, the best thing about Carmeli cues is how well they play. They have a great, well-deserved reputation for their consistently good hit and balance. This one is no exception - it hits a ton.
Ariel closed his shop at the end of February and is in the process of moving the entire thing, along with his home and family, from California to Virginia. He plans to be up and running again in a few months, but I don't anticipate getting more cues from him for an extended period of time, so if you like this one, grab it quick.
The black ash burl in this cue really stands out against the background of sleek black ebony. Black ash grows primarily in the northern, eastern portions of the U.S. and Canada. Unfortunately, it is becoming very susceptible to insect infestation and it is estimated that up to 90% of the trees will be dead before long. The burls are considered worth salvaging because of their natural beauty, and are widely used in cues, knife handles, pens and furniture.

Very pretty veneer work - delicate and classy. And the points are all long and sharp.
Good, clean inlay work, and a close look at the beautiful abalone.
I really like this "diamond within diamond" inlay pattern.
| |
And he uses the fancy rings at all locations - above the butt cap, below and above the wrap, at the joint and on the ring collars of the shafts.
The handle is wrapped with a nice textured black leather wrap.

This cue comes with two of his premium maple 13mm shafts with matching rings, LBM melamine ferrules and Triangle medium hard tips. It weighs 18.8 ounces (14.8, 4.0, 4.0), and is 58 inches long. It's a beautiful stick that will make a great companion for the right pool player.
